Are You Ready for the 2025 International Roadcheck?

From May 13–15, 2025, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will launch its annual International Roadcheck. This year, inspectors across North America will be focusing on two critical areas: tire violations and false records of duty status (RODS).

Why This Matters to Fleet Operators

Every year, thousands of vehicles are inspected, and failing to meet compliance standards can lead to costly downtime and penalties. This year’s focus highlights two of the most frequent β€” and preventable β€” violations:

πŸš› Tire Violations

Poor tire maintenance is not just a mechanical issueβ€”it’s a serious safety risk. Inspectors will be checking for:

  • Low tread depth and audible air leaks
  • Flat tires or casing showing through
  • Bulges, tread separation, and improper repairs
  • Objects stuck between dual tires

Proper tire maintenance can prevent accidents, reduce fuel consumption, and improve vehicle longevity.

πŸ“‹ False RODS Violations

Hours-of-service (HOS) rules are in place to prevent driver fatigue. Inspectors will be alert for:

  • Tampering with electronic logging devices (ELDs)
  • Ghost drivers or improper co-driver claims
  • Misuse of personal conveyance or adverse condition exemptions
  • Falsifying off-duty status while performing work

Accurate RODS are essential to stay compliant and avoid fines or out-of-service orders.
